Joyce “Grandmom” was preceded in death by her parents, Garland and Bernice Goodwin and brother in law Dewey Smith.
She is survived by her husband of fifty three years, Robert W. Bradley “Dig” and her three children and their spouses, Sara B. Eddings (Hal) of Nazareth, Pennsylvania, Carole Glenn (Bruce) of Homewood, Alabama and Jeffrey R. Bradley (“TJ”) of Hoover, Alabama. Joyce “Grandmom” is also survived by her seven grandchildren, aka “grandsweeties,” Christin Knight (Jeff), Jessica Mize (Michael Stott), Isabelle Eddings (Evan “Ivan” Easterday), Isaac Eddings, Anna Glenn, Isaiah Eddings and Jack Glenn, and three great grandchildren aka “great grandsweeties,” Lucy Knight, Wiley Knight and soon to be Baby Knight. “Grandmom” is also survived by four siblings, Nancy Smith of Mentone, Alabama, Barbara Mumpower (Buddy) of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Eddie Goodwin (Claudia) of Mentone, Alabama and Lynn Robinson of Hueytown, Alabama, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Joyce “Grandmom” earned a Bachelor’s degree in English from Howard College in 1961 where she was a member of Delta Zeta sorority. She worked her way through college as a secretary and bookkeeper at M.J. Gorrie and Associates. In 1966 she took a sabbatical to raise her three children. During the 1970’s and early 1980’s, she volunteered as Treasurer of the Assistance League of Birmingham. In 1985, she returned to the business world to work for Gorrie-Regan, Incorporated. In 1986, she began working at Charles H. McCauley and Associates, architecture firm and ascended to the position of Office Manager until 2007, when the company closed. In January 2008, she started working for Davis Architects, managing all contractors for the firm, until December 2014.
Visitation will be at Ridout’s Valley Chapel, Homewood, Alabama from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday July 8, 2015. The funeral service will also be at Ridout’s Valley Chapel and begin at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 9, 2015. Joyce “Grandmom” will be interred at 2:45 p.m. at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, Alabama.
