John was born in Florence, Alabama, and attended Auburn University, where he studied Building Science and later instituted numerous scholarships for students of the program. Upon graduation, John worked diligently to achieve his vision of founding his own company. McCrory Building Company was established in Birmingham in 1985, and grew to become one of the premier commercial construction companies across the Southeast. Perhaps, John’s most noteworthy attribute as a leader was his devotion to people as he mentored and developed countless employees who he viewed as extensions of his own family. Additionally, the Florence Lauderdale Public Library was constructed by McCrory Building Company to honor John’s parents and their lifelong love of reading and education. With any downtime he found, John had a passion for hunting and fishing that he cultivated as an opportunity to bring together friends and family.
