John Daniel Carney, Jr. died October 11, 2021. Born February 16, 1933, he is preceded in death by his parents, John Daniel Carney and Carolyn Sims Carney; brother, James Joseph Carney and sister, Jean Carney Sertell. He is survived by his wife, Janice F. Carney, and his four children: John Daniel Carney, III (Kim), Kathryn Carney Lovelady, Andrew Holt Carney (Capriccia), and Mary Carney Donald (Joe). He was proudest of his eight grandchildren: Mary Kathryn Carney Martin (Tommy), Caroline Carney Donald, James Thomas Holt Lovelady, Elizabeth Harris Forsyth Donald, Joseph Marion Donald IV, Anne Traywick Lovelady, Andrew Holt Carney, Jr. , and Virginia Frances Carney.
John attended John Carroll Catholic High School and graduated from Auburn University. He began his career with U.S. Steel, later, moving his family to Knoxville, Tennessee to work for Knoxville Iron Company and Tucker Steel. Returning to Birmingham in 1977, John purchased a small manufacturing business (Graphite & Carbon Products Co), working there until his retirement. He was an active member of Saint Peter the Apostle Catholic
