He was preceded in death by his father, Jesse Price Evans, Jr, and father-in-law, Hugh Platt Stith, III. He is survived by his wife, Dawn Stith Evans; two sons, Jesse Price Evans IV (Lucy) and Martin Whitfield Evans (Lindsey); four grandchildren, Rowland Whitfield Evans, Thomas Shepherd Evans, Mary Clyde Agnes Evans, and Sterling Allen Evans; step-mother, Barbara Morris Evans; mother-in-law, Diane Stith; two brothers, Clayton Webb Evans (Angie) and Boyd Haney Evans; and a host of loved cousins, nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great-nieces.
Jesse was a lawyer, author, professor, woodworker, outdoorsman, and loving father and husband. He was an exceptional trial lawyer, but also a scholar. Jesse tried hundreds of jury trials throughout his accomplished career, while proudly authoring five editions of Alabama Property Rights and Remedies, and co-authoring the recently published Sixth Edition with son, Price. He was a lawyer’s lawyer, who never hesitated to offer his time and assistance to fellow members of the bar who often consulted with him about complex legal issues. He taught at Birmingham School of Law and The University of Alabama School of Law for decades. His creativity is displayed through numerous woodworking designs and projects, a talent passed along to son, Martin. He spent countless days in the woods or on the water, especially with his sons, who cherish the life long memories they created together. Most of all, he adored his wife Dawn, also a lawyer, with whom he shared many common interests, including traveling, cooking, politics, and the law.
