Jean Irwin West, 91, went home to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ, on June 16, 2019. Jean was born in Birmingham, Alabama, and attended Inglenook Elementary and Phillips High School. She was the daughter of the late Morris Jerome Holcomb and Mamie Purser Holcomb. She was preceded in death by her first husband of 53 years, Orrie Walker Irwin, Jr., an infant daughter Rebecca, and an infant grandson, Jesse Irwin. Jean is survived by her husband, Robert O. “Oz” West; sister, Geraldine “Jerry” Fields; along with her sons, Orrie Walker “Wally” Irwin, III (Susan), Michael Holcomb Irwin (Anna), and Alton Culpepper Irwin (Wendy), all of Birmingham. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. Jean was known for her love for the Lord and everyone with whom she came in contact. She always had a hug and a kiss for everyone in her family. In her final days, when names escaped her, she simply would say, “I love you.” Special thanks to all the medical personnel and caregivers at St. Martin’s in the Pines. Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 21, 2019 at Ridout’s Valley Chapel in Homewood. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m.
