Hill was a native of North Andover, Massachusetts and was the loving wife of Dr. S. Richardson Hill, Jr.,
former President of UAB. Mrs. Hill graduated from Abbott Academy in Andover, Massachusetts, now a
part of Phillips Academy. She majored in Chemistry at Vassar College where she earned the Bachelor of
Arts degree in 1949. She was a research Associate at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital at Harvard
Medical School during 1949-1950. She has lived in Birmingham since 1954 when Dr. Hill joined the
faculty at UAB.
Mrs. Hill has been active in many civic and community activities in Birmingham. She has served on the
Boards of the Highlands Day School, the Brooke Hill School, the Junior League of Birmingham, the
Volunteer and Information Center of Greater Birmingham, Child Mental Health, and the Linly Heflin
Unit. She has also been a member of the Alumni Advisory Board of Phillips Academy, Andover,
Massachusetts. At UAB she has served as a board member of the UAB Faculty Women’s Club and the
Women’s Committee of Spain Rehabilitation Center. She is a past president and program chair of the
Highland’s Book Club.
In recognition of the important role she played in the life of UAB and the community, the University
awarded her the UAB President’s Medal in 1986.
Mrs. Hill is survived by her four children, Susan Lindley, Rick Hill, Elizabeth (Betsy) Wilson and Margaret
Cohn, nine grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
Services will be held at Cathedral Church of the Advent on Friday, December 16, 2022, at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Cathedral Church of the Advent or the charity
of your choice.
