Mildred “Jane" Foster, born June 7, 1929, went to be with her loving Savior on December 13, 2018. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Col. John Norwood Morris, their infant daughter, Marie Welborn Morris and her parents, Hughlett Souhland Foster and Harriett Elizabeth Fruitticher Foster. She is survived by her daughter, Melissa Morris McGehee (Hardy); Son, John Norwood Morris, II (Mary Lynne) and daughter Patricia Morris Bromberg; Her grandchildren, Abigail Elizabeth Lisette Bromberg, Hannah Evelyn Jane Bromberg, Maddison Grace Bassett Bromberg, William Noble Morris, Farley Southland Morris. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Mary Jane Monroe and many nieces and nephews.
She grew up in Birmingham, Al and graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in interior design. She worked at the Department of Pensions and Security as a Social Worker for 25 years.
Jane had an active social life, bringing joy and happiness to everyone around her. She was a member of Canterbury United Methodist Church, the John Wesley Sunday School Class. She also served on the altar guild. She was involved in many dance clubs and organizations including Ballerina’s and Gaities dance clubs, the Argus Literary Club, the John Parke Custis D.A.R., the Pelham Chapter U.D.C., Queen of Spades Garden Club, the Ballet Guild of Birmingham and a member of a loyal bridge club that originated in 1957 and is active to the present day.
The grandchildren will always remember fun times with ”Jane Jane” at her favorite view of the city, The Club. She had a great passion of flowers, floral design and travel. We can’t forget her infamous scarf collection.
Jane enriched the lives of everyone she knew through her sense of humor and enthusiasm. A faithful friend and matriarch of her family, she brought a genuine sense of optimism to whatever she faced. Her family admired he ever positive view on life and she will forever remain an inspiration to all who knew her.
The family will receive friends on Sunday December 16, 2018, 5-7 in the evening at Ridout’s Valley Chapel, Homewood, Al. Funeral service will be held Monday, December 17, 2018, 2:30 at Canterbury United Methodist Church followed by burial at Elmwood Cemetery.
