James Warner “Jim” Sledge, of Birmingham, AL, passed away on July 2, 2020. He was born to the late James and Irene Sledge on June 16, 1938 in Memphis, TN. He graduated from Nicholas Blackwell “Bartlett” High School in 1956 as a three sport letterman, receiving baseball scholarships to play at Ole Miss and Lambuth University. He then went on to have a successful career with U.S. Steel and completed his work at AL/TN Metals. Jim was an avid Tennessee Vols fan leading the “Big Orange Club” in Birmingham, devout member of Saint Mark Methodist Church, a loving husband, father, Papaw and friend to everyone he met.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Deloris Ann “Dee” Sledge, and their children; Joy Rast (Don) of Jackson, TN, Jill Sharpe (Scott) of Bartlett, TN, Jan Morris (Mike) of Bartlett, TN, Rod Roegner of Denver, CO, and Sonja Smith (Rick) of Hoover, AL, his sister; Anne Foster (David) of Bartlett, TN, 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2020 at Ridout’s Valley Chapel located at 1800 Oxmoor Rd. in Homewood, AL. Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm with the funeral following at 2:00 pm. A celebration of life will be held in Memphis, TN at a later date.
