James C. McGraw was a lifelong resident of Shelby and Jefferson Counties having lived all of his adult life in the Birmingham area. He went to be with his Lord on 6/2/2012 at the age of 81. Jim, “Slick” to many of his friends, attended Alabama Polytechnic Institute (Auburn University) where he was a member of Delta Sigma Phi fraternity and became a football fan during the ‘Shug’ Jordan era. He received his degree in 1951. Jim served in the Army during the Korean conflict and afterwards was instrumental in establishing a National Guard Armory in Vincent, AL. Jim leaves two brothers, Fred who lives in Grove Hill, AL and John who lives in Shelby County. There are a number of nieces and nephews and other extended family. Services will be held on Tuesday, June 5 at 11am at Ridout’s Valley Chapel 1800 Oxmoor Road in Homewood. The family will visit with friends at 10:30. Grave side will be at the Vincent Cemetery at 2:00pm.
