2015 at his home in Pelham Alabama at the age of 90. He was preceded in death by his parents, his
brother, and his wife of 35 years, Mary Delaney Turner Lucas. He is survived by this son, James Loyd
Lucas Jr. of Pelham; his daughter, Sandra Lucas Hergaurd of Detroit, MI; along with six grandchildren,
fourteen great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members. He was known
as James to some and Loyd to others. A World War II veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp, he owned
several businesses before his retirement and he was very active as a sponsor and coach of Little League
baseball in the Birmingham area. He was a 50-year Mason and Shriner, and a 50-year member of the
Order of the Eastern Star. At the time of his death, James was the oldest living Past Grand Patron of the
Grand Chapter of Alabama, Order of the Eastern Star. He was a member of the 5 Mile Presbyterian
Church. He will long be remembered as one who loved life along with his family and friends and would
do anything for all around him. Services will be held at Ridout’s Valley Chapel in Homewood, with
visitation on Tuesday evening July 7, 2015 from 5 until 8 PM and a celebration of life on Wednesday July
8 at 1000 AM. A graveside service will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery in Birmingham.
