Jack Reynolds Herlong, Sr., 95, went to be with his Lord on July 6, 2022. He was a long time resident of Vestavia Hills, Alabama and was a faithful member of Hoover Baptist church. He was born in Fairfield, Alabama, graduated from Fairfield high school and graduated from Alabama Polytechnic Institute (Auburn University) School of Pharmacy where he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. During World War II he served as a Seaman First Class in the Navy. For several years he owned and operated Herlong Drugs in Fairfield, Alabama until the late 1960's. He was a pharmacist and the manager of Alley's Drugs in Vestavia Hills, Alabama for many years and retired from the University of Alabama Hospital where he had several positions including managing the pharmacy storeroom. He was an avid fisherman, hunted dove, and was an excellent woodworker, making many pieces of beautiful furniture.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Asbury Herlong, Sr., and Gladys Reynolds Herlong, and his brother, Ernest Asbury Herlong, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Helen (Anne) Stollenwerck Herlong, son, Jack Reynolds Herlong, Jr. (Barbara), daughter, Lisa Ann Herlong, and grandson, Jack Reynolds Herlong, III, all of Birmingham, Alabama, and his niece, Lynn Herlong Williams (Paul), of Brandon, Mississippi.
A graveside service will be held at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham, Alabama on July 12, 2022 at 10:00am. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to Hoover Baptist Church in Hoover, Alabama.
