Henry Arthur Dube passed away peacefully at the age of 76 on Monday, April 7, 2025. Henry was born in Brooklyn, New York on July 27. After living in Savannah, Georgia, the family moved to Birmingham in 1959. He attended Ramsey High School.
He was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed all sports, including golf and softball, but his biggest passions were ice hockey and scuba diving. He was one of the pioneers in establishing the youth hockey league in Birmingham. He coached hockey for all ages, including his children Michelle and Craig. He was the first person from Alabama to ever sign a professional hockey contract, which was with the Birmingham Bulls when they originally came to Birmingham in the 1970s.
He was a certified dive master and enjoyed traveling to explore the depths of the ocean and photographing the underwater wildlife.
Another passion of Henry’s was volunteering with Camp Smile-A-Mile, where he enjoyed taking the kids on boat rides at Children’s Harbor on Lake Martin.
He is proceeded in death by his mother, Evelyn, his father, Allen and his son, Craig. He is survived by his daughter, Michelle Hendrix, and sisters, Anne Ward and Susan Dube.
In lieu of usual remembrances, Henry would have instead preferred that memorial contributions be directed to Camp Smile-A-Mile or American Cancer Society.
