Harry was born in Phenix City, Alabama on February 15, 1942. He graduated from Phillips High School in Birmingham, Alabama in 1960, and attended the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech), where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 1964. On June 13, 1965, he married the love of his life, Katherine Freeman. He joined the United States Army in 1966 where he served as a 1st Lieutenant. He was stationed at Edgewood Arsenal in Maryland, where he designed and tested fuse systems for weapons.
After his military service, Harry returned to Birmingham in 1968 and began working in the Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning Industry as a registered professional engineer, consultant, and contractor. In 1981 Harry founded, owned and operated Jeffcoat Mechanical Services, where he was still active in daily operations, until his passing.
Harry was a faithful believer in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and leaves a legacy of service for the Lord, his wife, family, and anyone that had the pleasure of knowing him. There was nothing Harry loved more than sharing the Good News, and he would often say that mission work was his hobby. Harry’s passion for foreign missions and the force of his conviction led him to be a messenger for Christ on over thirty-five mission trips to India and additional missions in Venezuela, Curacao, and Trinidad. Harry was active in the Baptist Builders for Christ for over 35 years and was an active member of the Mission Involvement Committee at North Shelby Baptist Church at the time of his passing.
The celebration of Harry's life will be on Monday, Sept 12th at North Shelby Baptist Church, 4100 Belcher Dr, Birmingham, AL 35242. Visitation will begin at 11AM and the service will start at 1PM.
