Glenn Stephen (Steve) Gray, age 67, passed away peacefully at his home in Mountain Brook, Alabama on Sunday, August 22nd, 2021 from natural causes. Steve was born on June 20th, 1954 in Sheffield, Alabama to the late Scott & Ruth Gray. He is predeceased by his sister, Anne Gray.
As an entrepreneur and business owner, Steve spent the bulk of his life in Birmingham where he worked as a mechanical engineer who designed, manufactured, and installed radial log cranes and wood chip mills. Most recently he served as Director of Gray Wood Systems working with AHR Metals Inc.
Steve is survived by his daughters, Haley Gray (Birmingham) and Tara Rasheta (Dallas), and his granddaughters, Darby & Malone Rasheta. His children and grandchildren were the light of his life and his greatest pride. A few of his proudest moments include attending Haley’s graduation from the University of Alabama, his father-daughter dance at Tara’s wedding and being a Papaw to his grandchildren.
Steve was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed waterfowl hunting and sport fishing. He was a skilled cook and created chef-inspired meals that looked as beautiful as they tasted; his specialties included delicate, fruit tarts and low-country southern cuisine. Steve loved classic rock & Motown, a good scotch, gentleman’s fashion, his beloved dog, Daisy, and cat, Fisher, and the Crimson Tide.
A memorial service is planned for Friday, September 3rd at 10:30 am in the Rector's Garden at the Cathedral Church of the Advent, 2017 6th Ave N, Birmingham, AL 35203 (enter through the 20th Street North entrance). Guests are invited to visit with Steve's family in Clingman Commons immediately following the service.
