Jerry was born in Louisville, Kentucky, the son of Gaston and Katie Campbell. His family moved to Birmingham in 1948 and he attended Shades Cahaba Elementary School. Jerry graduated from Shades Valley High School in 1959 and attended the University of Alabama. He graduated from Howard College (now Samford University) in 1963 with a degree in Pharmacy. He served as pharmacist in several locations in the Birmingham area and was owner of Homewood Apothecary and Gammill and Campbell Drugs. He then was hired by Big B corporation to start the Drugs for Less chain. He opened the store in Roebuck and then transferred to the Hoover location. Drugs for Less was later acquired by Fred’s and Jerry worked for Fred’s until his retirement.
In addition to being an avid Bama fan, Jerry was an active member of Shades Mountain Baptist Church, the Businessmen’s Sunday School Class and the Mizzell Class. His greatest passion in life was to be of service for the Lord. For the past 40 years he was involved with Love in Action ministries providing food for needy families in the greater Birmingham area. He was Executive Director for the last fifteen years.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 59 years, Linda Robinson Campbell. Other survivors include sons, Jay (Jill) of Garden City, SC; Robert (Allison) of Auburn; and one daughter, Suzanne Blackwood(Marty) of Vestavia. Also surviving are his grandchildren; Beau and Walter Reed; Caden, Carson, and Caylee Campbell; Lee, Daniel, and Barrett Blackwood; and Jocelyn, Todd, and Scott Veilleux; sisters in law, Carolyn Campbell, Sandra Ballard, and Susan Knox; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother William, and brothers in law, Bingham Ballard and Larry Knox.

A memorial service in Jerry's honor will be held on October 5, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Shades Mountain Baptist Church. The family will receive friends concluding the service.
