He is survived by his son, Terry Elmus Quinn (Laura), of Marietta, Georgia; his grandson Patrick Quinn of Marietta, Georgia; his daughter-in-law Esther Ray Quinn of Birmingham; and numerous neighbors and friends who thought of him as their adopted father or grandfather.
George was preceded in death by his wife, Martha McAnnally Quinn; his parents, Elmus Verdo Quinn and Linner Adline Gurley Quinn; his son Thomas Allen Quinn; and his grandson Peter Timothy Quinn.
George was born on December 11, 1927, in Pratt City, Alabama. He was a 1946 graduate of Shades Cahaba High School, where he served as homeroom president, was a member of Printer’s Pi, and starred on the baseball team. He received the Army of Occupation Medal for his service as a Sergeant in the United States Army in Germany from 1950 - 1952. Upon returning home from his military service, George married his sweetheart Martha McAnnally in January 1953. He was a member of Shades Mountain Baptist Church and was retired from Coca-Cola Bottling Company United.
George was a long-time resident of Dixon Avenue in Homewood, Alabama, where he was much beloved by everyone who knew him. Known as “Mr. Quinn” to his neighbors, he performed innumerable acts of kindness for his neighbors and doted on the neighborhood children.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, September 3rd, 2019, at 3 o’clock in the afternoon, at Forest Hill Cemetery, Birmingham, Alabama.
