

Gayle Bullock Morrison, age 75 passed away on November 7, 2023. She was born to the late Carl Mertis Bullock and Mildred Ingram Bullock on August 6, 1948. Gayle graduated Miller County High School in 1966 and graduated with her BS in Business and Marketing from Troy State University in 1970. Gayle went on to graduate from The University of Alabama in Birmingham where she received her BS, Masters and PhD in Early Childhood Education.
Gayle traveled the world attending reading conferences, with friends and colleague’s conducting workshops, teaching classes, organizing professional conferences, and working on dissertations. She also enjoyed shopping, going out to eat, and discussing books. No matter what she was doing, Gayle had so much to offer and shared all she possessed freely, lovingly.
Gayle worked as a Literacy Coaches for many years with Hoover City Schools. Gayle believed so much about the importance of quality literacy instruction. There was no compromise in her mind. Every student deserved the best instruction possible. And she could deliver it. So many children were impacted as readers and writers because of her expertise, passion, and experiences. She was a true gift to the teaching profession. Hundreds if not thousands of children were blessed because she poured into them as though they were her very own. She also co-wrote “Creating the Best Literacy Block Ever” to guide teachers on how to teach and how to set up classrooms. Her mind was 2nd to none.
Gayle was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Jim Morrison and by her brother Mike Bullock. She is survived by her son Jimmy Morrison his wife Jennifer Morrison, her grandchildren: Leslie Brooke, Kristina Hope, James Connor, and James Jaxon Morrison, her sister n law. Karen Bullock and many other family and friends.
Graveside services will be on Friday, November 17, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Croft Acton Cemetery.
