Frank L. Vance, III, age 92, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 30, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank L & Margaret Vance; sister, Marjorie Vance; wife, Mary E. Vance & daughter, Carol Ann Vance. He is survived by his children, Katherine Latta (Larry), Cynthia Vance & Frank L. Vance, IV (Becki); his grandchildren, Chris Latta, Heather Johnson & Frank L. Vance, V. & his great grandchildren, Trinity Johnston & Reese Latta. Frank enlisted in the Army Air Corp in 1942. He served as a Glider Pilot in World War II in the 9th Air Corp 306-442nd Division. He flew many missions in Holland, France, England & Germany. The most important missions he piloted were "Operation Market Garden" and supplied & fought with General Patton at the Battle of the Bulge. He received the 3rd highest accommodation medal in the military. Frank spent 40 years as a faithful employee of Dunn & Bradstreet. After retirement, he became an active member of the Homewood Auxiliary Police Department and served on the board. He will be remembered for his integrity, kindness, generosity & loving nature that was a living example of his devotion to his family & faith. Visitation will be Saturday, January 4, 2014 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 10-11. Funeral Mass will follow at 11 with burial at Elmwood Cemetery.
