Frances, a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend died in Birmingham on November 12, 2013. She was born in August 8, 1919 to Vera Foust Duke and Conrad J. Duke in Cullman, Alabama, where she lived most of her life. She married Elbert E. Ponder and made a career of helping him in his many projects and business interests. She and Elbert enjoyed sixty-five years of marriage, family, friends, fun, church and community achievements in Cullman and Destin.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister Wilma Chambers and great-grandson John Clark Eidson. She is survived by her daughters Joyce Cahoon and Suzy (Bill) Eidson; grandchildren: Greg (Kathie), Doug (Julia), Kara and Robert (Susan); great grandchildren: Chase, Morgan, Audrey, Riley, Elizabeth, Patrick and Phillip. She is also survived by her brother Charles Duke (Dorothy) and his family.
A celebration of her life will be at Grace Episcopal Church in Cullman on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. followed by a reception in the parish hall where friends and family may share “Frances” memories. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in memory of Frances Ponder to Grace Church, 304 Arnold Street NE, Cullman, Alabama 35055 or St. Stephens Episcopal Church, 3775 Crosshaven Dr., Birmingham, Alabama 35243.
