Edward Alan Burks

Edward Alan Burks of Mountain Brook ,AL passed away on Friday, April 19,2013. He was born in Hartselle, Al June 11, 1951. He was preceded in death by his parents Elwood and Sue Patterson Burks. Alan attended Pensacola High School where he played football. He was a graduate of the University of Alabama and a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. Alan was president of Omega Tires, a member of Shoal Creek Country Club, a member of Canterbury United Methodist Church, the Jam Golf Group, and Bon Temps Cabrix Mardi Gras Organization . After college graduation he worked in the family business, Big Ten Tires. In 1982, Alan and his brothers formed Omega Tires after Big Ten Tires was sold.The Burks brothers established ten retail tire locations in Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, and Nashville. Alan was an avid golfer playing in numerous tournaments, many of them charitable events .Alan enjoyed spending time with family and friends at the family home on Ono Island for over 30 years.

Alan is survived by his wife Lind Turner Burks; His sons Turner Alan Burks and Parker Hammond Burks. His brothers John Patterson Burks (Pam) and David Scott Burks (Susan). His sister in law Carlyn Turner Deeds (John). His mother and father in law Naomi and Curry Turner. Step mother Hattie L. Burks and step sister Samantha Harrison (Daniel).

A memorial service will be held at Canterbury United Methodist Church, 350 Overbrook Road, Mountain Brook, AL 35213, on Wednesday, April 24,2013 at 2:00 PM. Visitation at 12:30 PM with services at 2:00 PM. The Rev. Bill Morgan will officiate. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, April 26,2013 at Maple Hill Cemetery , Huntsville, AL .

The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Burks, Hosier, Nelson Memorial Scholarship Fund, payable to the University of Alabama, in care of Jody Chorba, P.O. Box 578, Guntersville, AL 35976
