THOMAS, DOROTHY LOUISE MILLER Dorothy Louise Miller Thomas Loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister-in-law and friend, she had a smile and a kind word for everyone. She was a source of strength and encouragement for all those fortunate enough to know her. She took great pleasure in helping others. At age 84, she became a volunteer at St. Vincent's Hospital. Dorothy loved to laugh and always lood for the positive side of any situation. She was born in Detroit, Michigan on October 15, 1918 to Frank and Adeline Miller. Her family moved to Birmingham when she was six weeks old. She graduated from Woodlawn High School at the age of 16. She worked for many years at Joslyn Manufacturing and Supply. Dorothy was an active and joyful member of the Crusader Class at Vestavia Hills Methodist Church, Red Maple Garden Club, Vista Club, Vestavia Garden Club and numerous bridge groups. She was preceded in death by her husband, Colvin, in 2000 and by her brother, Ed Miller, her sister, Margaret Jones and her son-in-law, Jerry Anderson. She leaves behind her daughters, Jeanne Anderson and Susan Cook (Ross), grandsons Todd Anderson, Kyle Anderson (Nancy), Kevin Cook (Nystrand), great-grandchildren Erica, Leah, J. Austin and Clayton Anderson, and Alexa and Ryan Cook. The family will receive friends 10-11 on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at Ridout's Valley Chapel in Homewood.
