David Richard King, age 64, passed away on July 4, 2023, with his brothers by his side. He was born on April 22, 1959 in Alexandria, Virginia to the late former Alabama State Senator Tom King and Norma Kathryn Tibbetts King.
A retired attorney, David was a 1985 graduate of Cumberland School of Law at Samford University. He initially practiced law in Birmingham with King and King, a firm founded by his father and two brothers, and later as a sole practitioner. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having graduated from the U.S. Army Quartermaster School at Fort Lee, Virginia, with subsequent assignments in the Alabama Army National Guard.
David was a 1981 graduate of The University of Alabama where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Social Fraternity. He took great pleasure in following Alabama Crimson Tide sports and remained a fervent supporter throughout his life.
Preceded in death by his parents, David is survived by his brothers, retired Circuit Judge and Brigadier General Tom King, Jr. (Marsha), retired Jefferson County Presiding Probate Judge Alan L. King (Karen.d), several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The family extends their appreciation to Tan Montiua Bonner with Jefferson-Blount-St. Clair Mental Health Authority; Tanya Cristwell with Magnolia House; the staff at Southern Pines, including former director Angie Chastain; and, the caring doctors and nurses at Grandview Medical Center.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, July 7, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Rideout's Valley Chapel, 1800 Oxmoor Road, Homewood, Alabama, with private burial in the King Family Plot at Elmwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in David's name to the Birmingham Bar Foundation Memorial Fund, 2001 Park Place North, Suite 430, Birmingham, AL 35203; or, to the Jefferson-Blount-St. Clair Mental Health Authority, 940 Montclair Road, Suite 200, Birmingham, AL 35213.
