A graduate of the University of North Alabama, Betty had a long and varied career with U.S. Steel Corporation in Birmingham and Memphis, MOE Company and Van American Insurance Company in Birmingham. She was a member of Bluff Park United Methodist Church.
Preceded in death by her parents, James Thomas and Alice Virginia (Tootsie) Whitten, her husband, Thomas Gordon Harding Jr., sister Barbara Jean Shelton, sister-in-law Karen Harding Cater, and aunts Mary Elizabeth Irons and Doris Barwick.
Those left to remember her loving and generous spirit are her brother, James Louis Whitten (Polly) of Florence, AL, aunts Ethel Whitten, Luna Belle Rickman of Florence, AL, nephews James Ronald Shelton (Karen) of Trussville, AL, Richie Whitten of Hattiesburg, MS, and Reid Harding Cater (Sarah) of Hillsborough, NC, niece Stacey Shelton Ledvina (Jamie) of Gainesville, FL, great-nieces Leah Shelton Reddick (Ross), Shea Shelton Mechaw (Shawn), Anna Whitten, Bailey Ledvina, Karen King Cater, great-nephews Tyler Ledvina and Allan Whitten, great-great-nephew Paxton Reddick and great-great-niece Kayleigh Mechaw.
Friends are cordially invited to visit with the family at noon until one o'clock in the afternoon at Ridout’s Valley Chapel, on Monday, October 14, 2019. A memorial service celebrating her life will commence at one o'clock with Dr. Ric Camp officiating.
