She was working in New York City, when she met the love of her life – the dashing Ensign in the US Navy- James Bryan Hill, Jr
Jim and Barbara were married in Avon, Illinois on December 18, 1942.
In the early years, she was an active member of the Village Church in Prairie Village Kansas, where she sang in the Choir and was a member of the Tomahawk Players thespian group, for which she appeared in a number of plays.
After moving to Birmingham, she was life long member of Canterbury Methodist Church and the Circle Garden Club.
She is survived by her 2 children, James Bryan Hill (Joyce) of St. Louis, MO and Janie Gause (Billy) of Birmingham, 4 Grandchildren Kelly (Greg) Ellis, Beau
(Brittany) Daniel, Stephanie (Jeff) Thurow and Jennifer (Jason) Sinquefield,
8 Great-grandchildren: Madelyn and Kathryn Ellis, Reed and Gaines Daniel, Leigh and Carson Thurow and Dalton and Olivia Sinquefield.
The family would like to thank the staff of Fair Haven Nursing Home for their dedication and caring.
They would especially like to thank Bessie Mosley, her caretaker, companion and more importantly her friend for the past 3 ½ years.
The family will receive friends Monday June 25, 2012 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, at Ridout’s Valley Chapel in Homewood with a chapel service for Mrs. Hill at 11:00 AM with burial following at Elmwood Cemetery.
