Anthony Drake “Tony” Vinsavich, age 81 died suddenly at his home in Vestavia Hills, Alabama, on November 21, 2024. He was born on July 20, 1943, to Ann Papa Vinsavich and Anthony J. “Tony” Vinsavich. Tony was a 1961 graduate of Franklin Simpson High School in Franklin, Kentucky. He received an appointment to the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland, from which he graduated in 1965. He spent the next five years serving in the United States Navy as an officer on nuclear powered submarines. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, he earned two master’s degrees in computer science, one from the University of Missouri and the other from the University of Iowa. Tony spent his business career developing and implementing computer software which included a stint at the White House in Washington, D.C.
Tony was a lifelong Catholic and at the time of his death he was a member of St. Peter the Apostle Church in Hoover, Alabama.
Tony is survived by his children, Stephanie Ann “Sunny” Vinsavich of New York City and Anthony Joseph “TJ” Vinsavich of Minneapolis, Minnesota. He is also survived by his brother, Stephen M. Vinsavich of Mountain Brook, Alabama and special cousins Susanne Anderson of Collinsville, Illinois, Mickey McCowen of Nashville, Tennessee, Susie Volmer of Festus, Missouri and Rosemary Flora of Arkadelphia, Arkansas.
A short visitation will precede a funeral mass which will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Franklin, Kentucky, at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 29, 2024, with burial following in Greenlawn Cemetery.
