Anne Dickson Kidd went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 17th, 2013. She was born in Lowndesboro, AL on March 5th, 1921. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, James Mallory Kidd, Jr. and her parents, Leila Traweek Dickson and Robert Stiles Dickson. She was also predeceased in death by her sisters, Leila Dickson Arthur, Doris Dickson Plant Thomas and her brother, Robert Stiles Dickson, Jr. Anne graduated from The University of Alabama where she was a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority. She met her future husband at the University of Alabama who was to become a Captain in the Army Air Corps. Anne, never to be outdone, earned her pilot's license and flew also. In the early 1970's, after her children had grown Anne started two businesses with partners, The Green Door Health Foods and The King's House Antiques, both of which are still in operation. Later she was one of the first women asked to serve on the boards of City Federal S&L and also Blue Cross Blue Shield.
She served on numerous civic boards and was instrumental in forming the Beaux Arts Ball to benefit the Birmingham Musuem of Art and she began The Birmingham Belles which currently has over 100 high school participants helping represent the City of Birmingham at various functions.Other organizations she helped serve included The Ballet Guild, Junior League, DAR and The Colonial Dames. She was past President of The Women's Committee of 100 and past Chairman of The Birmingham Museum of Art Ball. In her "spare time" she also represented Gittings Photography and Doncaster Women's clothing. Anne was a member of numerous clubs including the Birmingham Country Club, Mountain Brook Club, The Club and a member of the Rockridge Garden Club.
Anne came from that "Greatest Generation" who loved to dance and even taught dance. She formed the First Tuesday Tea Dance Club which held dances nine months out of the year at the BCC and she and her husband participated in several other dance clubs including The Gaities and The Comida Encore Dance Club.
As an admirer of hers recently said:" Anne was such a vibrant active member of the social and civic part of Birmingham, a starter and a doer and a lovely lady who bore her health troubles in later years with grace and dignity." The Kidd family would like to thank the ladies who helped Anne after her stroke especially Mary Evans, Rosetta Robinson, Barbara Echols, Pam Fields, Verlata Smith, Sindy Moss and her physical therapists Rhetta Johnson and Alison Acton.
She is survived by her sister in law Margaret Kidd, her children, James Mallory Kidd,III (Katherine), Robert Dickson Kidd (Sharon), John William Kidd (Susan), Donald Bradford Kidd (Robin), Leila Anne Kidd Rowan (Robby); grandchildren, James Mallory Kidd, IV (Andrea), Denton Savage Kimberly (Janeen), Robert Michael Rowan, Jr. (Kate), Eleanor Anne Rowan Fann (Tyler), William Joseph Rowan, Sarah Traweek Rowan Seelhorst (Darryl), Mallory Jane Kidd Earl (Mark), John William Kidd, Jr., William Bradford Kidd, II, Kaylor Elizabeth Kidd, Jackson Winfield Kidd; step-grandchild, Seanna Marie Holt; great-grandchildren, Robert Michael Rowan, III, Margaret Virginia Rowan, Charles Truman Earl, Thomas Mallory Earl, Eleanor Markley Earl, Hunter Kimberly, Emily Kimberly, Leila Kay Seelhorst, Rowan Elizabeth Seelhorst, Brooklyn Eleanor Seelhorst, Hollis Adair Fann, Mallory Drennen Fann, Estelle Stewart Kidd, and step-grandchild, Kiera Mychel Holt. Pallbearers are James Mallory Kidd, IV, Denton Savage Kimberly, Robert Michael Rowan, Jr, William Joseph Rowan, John William Kidd, Jr., William Bradford Kidd, II and Jackson Winfield Kidd.
A family graveside will be held at Elmwood Cemetery on Monday, October 21st and a memorial service will follow at 2:00 PM at Briarwood Church Chapel followed by a visitation afterwords.
