Anne Hobgood May. 17, 1935 - Jan. 16, 2023 At her home in Mountain Brook where she lived for almost 50 years, Anne Hobgood, age 87, passed peacefully surrounded by her son and daughter (Jim and Michelle) and their spouses Rachael and John (respectively).
Originally from Albertville, Alabama she moved to Birmingham after graduating as valedictorian from Albertville High School. She began her career as a bank teller but spent most of her career as a real estate agent, where she was a prominent member in the "Million Dollar Sales Club" for many years.
Her capacity to love was never ending. She loved with her whole heart. Many close friends and family felt she was a second mother or grandmother to them. During holidays and special occasions, her house was the gathering spot, and out of towners always requested to "stay at Anne's" and were never turned away. She was a guiding light to many. She had a soft spot for children and especially her grandchildren.
She will be sorely missed by Michelle (daughter), Jim (son), Rachel (daughter-in-law), John (son-in-law); Patrick, Allison and John (grandchildren); Mary (sister), Carol, Buzz, Ken, Stephanie, Lee, Karen, Robert and Gloria (nieces/nephews); Blake, Christy, Jordan, Elon (great nieces/nephews); and countless other family and friends. The past couple of years would not have been possible without Litrice Carter (friend/caregiver). And we cannot thank the Williams family enough for their unofficial "Meals of Wheels" delivery of hot food to Anne almost every day. While the food was nourishing to the body, it was the human contact that fed the soul.
The family will receive friends Monday, January 23, 2023 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. at Ridout's Valley Chapel in Homewood. The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at 10:00 am with a service to follow at 11:00 am at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 3775 Crosshaven Drive, Vestavia, AL 35223.
