She is preceded in death by her two loving husbands, J. Daniel Matheson, Jr. and Wallace Bunn, as well as her sister Jean Henson Smith, brother John M Henson, both of Atlanta, and her grandson, Thomas Balkovetz of Birmingham. She is survived by her children J. Daniel Matheson, III (Dianne), Jack Matheson (Leslie) and Mary Balkovetz (Dan); her six grandchildren, Will Matheson, Janet Matheson, Mary Ann Matheson, Frances Matheson, John Matheson and Ann Balkovetz, and her two great grandchildren, Savannah and Isla Matheson.
Ann graduated from Duke University, was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority but most importantly, a member of the Order of the White Duchy. None of her children has any idea what they did, or the credentials required for membership, but she was quite proud of her affiliation! She spent hours with her hands in the dirt of her beloved gardens, could shoot a dove with the best of them, played a wicked game of bridge, read books both great and not so, and loved her friends and family. She will be dearly missed by her children and their families, her extended family and her many friends.
Her memorial service will be at 10:00 AM, Friday, July 23, 2021 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church at 3736 Montrose Road, Birmingham, AL. Due to the recent surge in covid cases in Alabama, there will not be a visitation service inside, but the family will congregate outside once the service has ended. In lieu of flowers, please direct any memorials to the St. Luke’s Foundation.
