Alex Walton Sokol, 38 of Birmingham, died on Sat., March 28, 2015. Alex was a graduate of Mountain Brook High School and University of Alabama. He had a tremendous love for Alabama basketball and football. In May 2011, Alex co-founded Alabama Forever, a non-profit organization created to help those in need after the devastating tornado outbreak of 2011. In four years, Alabama Forever has evolved to help children and communities with educational, athletic, and recreational support. Alex was living his passion through Alabama Forever daily. Alex was preceded in death by his grandparents, Max and Sara Sokol and Elaine and Abraham Silver, stepmother, Deidra and stepbrother, Jason. He is survived by his parents, Bruce Sokol (Carleton) and Roberta May (Jim); sister, Jennifer Sokol Shulman (Andy) of Dunwoody, GA; brothers, Adam Sokol (Caryn) of Alpharetta, GA and Ben Sokol of Leadville, CO; Brantley and David Cook of Destin, FL; Walker May (Heather) and Turner May of Birmingham and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. We offer our sincere condolences to the entire family. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, March 30, 2015 at Temple Emanu-El, 2100 Highland Avenue, Birmingham, AL 35205, followed by a private burial at Elmwood Cemetery at 4:00 PM. Shiva will he held on Monday, March 30, 2015 at the home of Roberta and Jim May, 2708 Lanark Rd., Birmingham, AL 35223 from 5:30-8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Alabama Forever, 2708 Lanark Rd., Birmingham, AL 35223. May Alex rest in peace, and may his memory be a blessing to all who knew him. And may God comfort these mourners, together with all those who mourn for Zion and Jerusalem. -
