Dennis D. Rhodes, 61, of New Bloomfield departed this life Saturday October 29, 2011 at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City in the presence of his family. He was born December 1, 1949 in Mexico, Mo., the son of Woodford R. “Dusty” and Dixie (Jones) Rhodes.
Dennis was an avid motorcycle rider. He rode all across the nation, living life to the fullest. He was a member of the Blue Knights out of Columbia, Freedom of Road Riders Local #10 of Jefferson City, and the Civic Association of New Bloomfield. He was a member of Dry Fork Baptist Church in Guthrie.
Dennis worked for the Kansas City Police Department for five years where he was the first KCPD officer whose life was saved by a bullet-proof vest. He went to work for the Capital Police in 1983, serving at the Governor’s Mansion. He retired at the early age of 55 in 2005. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Left to cherish his memory is his mother; children, Deanna Norris (Doug) and Natalie Pool (Eric) of Kansas City, Nicholle Rhodes, Raquel Castrop (Patrick), and Jeffrey Rhodes (Jessica) all of Jefferson City; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at Dry Fork Baptist Church in Guthrie with Reverend Doctor Lewis Curtis officiating. Interment will follow in Dry Fork Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 pm on Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at Debo Funeral Home in Holts Summit.
In lieu of customary memorials, the family suggests donations be made in Dennis’s name to Dry Fork Cemetery, c/o Debo Funeral Home, PO Box 818, Fulton, MO 65251.
