Bill was born on April 14, 1928, to William and Amalie Bauer in New York City. Bill’s parents came to America from Heilbronn, Germany in 1926. His father managed Lindy’s Restaurant in Times Square for several years. While Bill attended Stuyvesant High School, he worked weekends at Paramount Theatre as an usher. One of his co-workers became known to us years later as singer, Vic Damone. Bill attended the University of Illinois where he studied electrical engineering. Later he was drafted in the US Army where he served in the Korean Conflict. Decorations received: Occupational Medal (Japan), Combat Infantryman Badge (CIB), Overseas Bar Korean Service Medal with Bronze Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal. Upon discharge, he moved to Miami, FL and went on to work for RCA.
In June 1960, Bill married Catherine who he had first met on a blind date. They remained in Miami, FL and after retirement in 2001, moved to Sebring, FL. They were married for 43 years. Bill spent the past few years with his family in South Florida.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife Catherine (Brockmeier) Bauer, in 2004. He is survived by his daughter Kathleen (Bauer) Peterson and her husband Steven Peterson; son Eric Bauer; and grandchildren, Andrew Peterson, Kaitlin Peterson, Alexander Peterson, and E’niah Bauer.
He was a devoted and loving husband and father. He loved classical music, the outdoors, spending time with his family, a good German meal and sharing stories of his life experiences.
