Linda is survived by her daughter Brooke, son-in-law Scott, and their children Abigail, Ella, Hannah, Avary, and Garrett; daughter Kristin, son-in-law Dmitry, and their daughter Penelope; daughter Jessica, son-in-law Joel, and their children Brianna, Dylan, Connor, and Taylor; her brother Kenneth Houston and sister-in-law Anita; brother-in-law Bill Hatton; nephew David Hatton; niece Linda Bauer and her son Ethan; and nephew Mike Henderson, his wife Molly, and their son Jacob.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James D. Davis; sister, Marcia Hatton; and parents Olin and Florence Houston.
Linda was born on July 27, 1945, in Chickasha, OK, and grew up in Anadarko, OK, where she met and ultimately married her high-school sweetheart and husband of 40 years. Linda was a pageant queen and small town sweetheart, winning almost every pageant she entered (except for the Miss Oklahoma pageant because the prior contestant illegally used rosin on the floor and messed up her dance routine, as she reminded us every chance she got!).
Linda graduated from the University of Oklahoma shortly after getting married in 1967 and was a beloved teacher for many years. She retired from New River Middle School and continued volunteering there for as long as she could.
Linda was beautiful, inside and out, and was a wonderful and valued friend to so many. She loved her daughters and family tremendously, but her most cherished role was that of a grandmother. She was gracious, generous, quick to laugh, eager to help, always had a hug available, and touched immeasurable lives over the years. She will be deeply and sadly missed by her beloved family and her many cherished friends, colleagues, and former students.
The family would like to extend its sincere thanks and appreciation to the nurses, doctors, and staff in the CVICU at Holy Cross Hospital for their kindness and support during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the IPF Foundation (which is the disease that took Linda’s dear husband, Jim’s life) or to ITP research (a rare blood disorder that Linda suffered with for decades).
There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at 350 Las Olas Place (350 SE 2nd Street, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301), 2:00pm-5:00pm. Mom wanted everyone to celebrate New Orleans style, so please dress in anything but black…or she will come back and haunt you.
