Lachmi Narain

Lachmi "Patrick" Narain was born to Ijjaa and Senama Chinnappadu at Albion Estate, British Guyana on November 24, 1929. He was the second of five children: the late Betty Bangaroo, Lily Kupasammy, Seetamah Appanah and Isaac Appanah. After graduating from Albion Government School, Lachmi's first job was working as an Account Clerk at Albion Estate. He later went on to work at the Albion Sugar Factory as a "Pan Boiler." He continued working as a Pan Boiler in several Caribbean islands, including Martinique, St. Lucia, Barbados, Dominica, and Guadeloupe. In 1977, he migrated to the United States to work at Franklin Sugar Factory in Franklin, Louisiana.

After retiring from the sugar industry, Lachmi settled in the Bronx, New York, where he worked as a Security Guard at River Park Towers. Successful in all he did and driven by ambition, he purchased a home in the Bronx, which became a place of gathering and solace for his wife, children, grandchildren, and many relatives. Friends and family were very important to Lachmi and he always welcomed everyone he knew with open arms. He and his wife later moved to Pembroke Pines, Florida to enjoy their golden years together.

Lachmi entrusted his life to Jesus Christ at a very young age and was a loving example of Christian faith. He was devout in his beliefs and was a member of Boulevard Bible Chapel in Pembroke Pines, Florida. Lachmi loved to read his Bible and instilled the love of Christ in his children and grandchildren. He was able to memorize and recite countless passages from the Bible that reflected relevant situations in everyday life.

Lachmi was a kind, loving husband and caring father. He possessed a great sense of humor, was a pillar of strength, and was always there for people in need. He had many friends and was loved by all who knew him. He was very interested in academics, which he conveyed to his siblings and later to his children. After retirement, he kept up to date with current events and was an avid reader.

Lachmi is survived by his loving wife Angelay Narain; six children, Shirley Etwaroo-Ramdat (Dr. Kenneth Ramdat), the late Sabrina Narain (Rohan Saraswati), Patricia DeSilva (late Ricky DeSilva), Darwin Narain (Zamona), Sandra Narain (late Muntaz Ally) and Elaine Narain (Ren Rajkumar); and eleven grandchildren, Larissa Etwaroo-Bako (Alex), Howard Etwaroo, Michael Narain, Ryan Ally, Richard and Adrian DeSilva, Andrew Saraswati, Christopher and Christina Narain, and Megan and Ashley Rajkumar; and a host of brother and sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends. Lachmi was proud of all his children, and throughout his life they brought him great joy. He will be deeply missed by all the lives he touched.
