Jerry was born in Detroit, Michigan on February 19th, 1942. He graduated from Mumford High School and earned an Associate’s Degree from the Elsa Cooper School of Court Reporting.
Jerry is the beloved husband of Pilar, and they were happily married for 38 beautiful years. Jerry is survived by Pilar, son Mitchell and his wife Alice, granddaughters Rebecca and Elizabeth, sister Carole Meyers Sweetwine, nieces and nephews Rachel Boyd, Marla Sewell, Emily Sweetwine, Becky Sweetwine, Ira Sweetwine, Kalman Sweetwine and Mike Boyd,great neices Ilanah, Livia and great nephews Isaac and Matan. Jerry was preceded in passing by his late parents, Sol and Bess Meyers, son Jason, daughter Beth, his and brother Mark.
Jerry was a dedicated Federal Court Reporter in Detroit, Michigan and in Miami, Florida for over 40 years, and sometimes assisted in cases of national importance. Jerry enjoyed golf, football, basketball, TV and action movies. Jerry was also actively involved with The Exceptional Theatre Company, an acting troupe in which his late son Jason was a devoted member.
The funeral will be a graveside service held at Fred Hunters Cemetery, which is located at 6301 Taft St. Hollywood, Florida 33024. Rabbi Jonathan Kaplan will be officiating. The family will gather outside in the parking lot of the funeral home at 1:45pm and then walk in procession to the gravesite. Shivah for family and friends will be held immediately following the funeral at the Meyers residence, located at 1601 NW 109th Terrace, Pembroke Pines, FL 33026, and again on Friday from 2pm – 6pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be provided to the ALS Center, 1120 NW 14th St. Suite 1311, Miami, FL 33136 Attention: Ginna Gonzalez.
