To all the family of Ms Mason,

I know were in 2025 and this was a while ago, I am deeply sorry for your loss, I just found out today Feb 25 about Ms Mason, I am deeply hurt and loss of words about this...

let me share my memory, I started in Phyllis Wheatley Elementary School back in 2009-2013, Coach Mason used to call me "Apple" back in the day, She was like my grandma, always motivated me to pursue a career in IT. When the famous iPhone 4 got released, she always told me i work for Apple and under Steve Jobs one day. I wish i could sit down with her one last time and show her pictures of my wife and kids and tell her i would not be here today if it wasn't without her. Please share my condolences with the rest of the family!

Just learning of coaches passing in 2022. Breaks my heart to even hear the news. 2001 until I completed elementary you were the best teacher anyone could have. I’ll never forget your works of encouragement coach, our talks about doing better. You motivated me in other classes when I wanted to give up and I thank you so much for that.  To the family my condolences she truly was a special person

I remember this teacher from my 5th grade year back in 2013-2014. She was personally my favorite P.E teacher because she never stopped believing that i can be a professional athlete some day when i grow up… She is definitely and forever will be one of my role models growing up. I love you Coach Mason and you will forever have a place in my heart!!!❤️

i’m truly hurt, coach mason was the best coach i have ever had, i had her for five years in Southside predatory academy, the way she smiled, the way she laughed, the way every time i had to go home she will give me a warm hug, i was hoping to go back to the school were she worked at and tell her how i’ve progressed over the years, she was truly my favorite out of all my teacher in the school. 

i am so hurt about the news of pur beloved coach i will always have her and her gorgeous smile and our inside jokes and how we bonded as teacher and student together. her positivity will always stay in my heart she was such a happy person and such a role model for her students she is so loved and we truly miss her and her beautiful soul may she rest easy and peacefully we love you coach and miss you so much. peace out x

To Coach Mason and her family. Coach Mason was truly larger than life. She is and will always be remembered by our family and most importantly to my daughter nicknamed “Smiles”. We always made a point to speak with Coach Mason and to make sure she knew how much she was appreciated and loved. In fact, the only reason we became aware of Jeanine’s passing was because all of the children at Southside kept asking for Coach Mason and wondering where she was. There are not many people whom are lucky enough to reach and touch so many people’s lives. Coach Mason is a gem and we will truly miss her laughter and the love she freely gave to everyone she came in touch with. I wish peace to all whom have loved Coach Mason. Peace out Coach...and thank you!!!

To Ms Mason's family: I am so sorry for your loss. I was her PE student for two years. She was really friendly and kind and also an amazing coach. I will miss her very much.

I have many fond memories of my niece Jeannine. Although it has been several years since I've seen her, I remember all the good times that we shared. Im especially fond of the time she taught us all to do the Macarena. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. I pray that God will comfort my sister Cherry and all of the family in this time of grief and mourning.

My darling baby girl Jeannine this poem reminded me so much of you. Your infectious laughter that made everybody smile, your love for children your students were so very special to you. And you enjoyed working with all your colleagues at school and he told me time after time that you had the best PTA in the whole world. Knowing that I am on Broward County Council PTA/PTSA you said I said I love you Ma but I have to tell you my PTA is the best. She loved animals, and people. She was a joy to be around. Her family loved and still loves her dearly. My baby girl will always be in our hearts and memories. Thank you to all of her friends,  her family, and a big special hug to the Miami Carol City Chiefs for all the beautiful comments and pictures. My baby girl I will never say goodbye because you are always here in my heart.

Gone to soon.  We had forever plans.  Until we meet again I will take comfort in knowing you are riding around up there in your pimped-out golf cart causing all sorts of chaos!  You are forever in my heart.

Coach Mason,
Your quick and warm smile, which made every Southside students and employee feel welcomed and valued, will be missed.  Many an early morning you would catch me breaking every WalkSafe rule as I impatiently darted across 13th street to get to Southside.  "Nasser!", you would call out for all to hear, sometimes from over a block away, and then smile and shake your head in mock disappointment.  I am so sad over you leaving us.  My heart goes out to your spouse, family and friends.

The very best neighbor. You and Trudy have lived next door to my family since I was in middle school. An extension of our family is an understatement. I can still hear you yell “HEYYY” when we were outside washing the cars or “BE GOOD” to all the animals when you and Trudy left the house to do errands. I always loved the way you set up the extensive Christmas decorations on the lawn every year and searching through your mango tree for my precious mangos. This picture might very well be the last photo of you, enjoying some Jack Daniels Fire with Trudy and my parents. Such a fun day and one I will always remember. We will think of you and toast you every time we take a shot of that “better than Fireball” liquid. I hope all of the puppies and kitties you loved that have crossed the rainbow bridge are with you now, including our sweet Dakota who passed just the day before you. I miss hearing your boisterous, energetic voice and sitting on the front porch drinking beers with the fam watching all the  neighborhood people walk their dogs. You will truly be missed.

How do say goodbye to a sister?  It is not easy.  You reminisce about the good/bad times you shared.  Memories are what we are left with and memories are what we hold on to and never let go. We were always so close growing up.   Jeannine would help out my dad with yard work, working on vehicles, and whatever else needed to be fixed around the house.  At some point, in true Jeannine fashion, she started calling my dad MAC and he called her JOE.  During our time at Miami Carol City Senior High School (MCC), Jeannine and I were on the Water Polo Team.  She was also on the Basketball Team and Softball Team.  She was liked by all of her teammates.  Jeannine acquired the nick name of Moose from the Water Polo Team and I was Moose's sister. lol  Jeannine was up for a softball scholarship but lost it due to an accident (7/13/79).  She was in the hospital for close to 30 days.  She recovered and instead of complaining she went to college.  She was the first and only person in our family that has a college degree.  She became a Physical Education Teacher.  As Jeannine was teaching, my other sister and I were busy getting married and having kids.  Jeannine was a PROUD AUNT.  She was right there for the birth of her nephews and participated in everything she possible could including watching my 2 sons, Bobby and Austin,  join the military and watching her oldest nephew, Edward who was nicked named Rock by Jeannine,  get married and start his family with Danielle and  their son Bodhi.  Pumpkin Patch was her special time with each of her nephews and everyone knew she was the person taking them there to get their pumpkins.  It is sad that Bodhi only got to spend a few years with her. In true sister fashion, there were issues between her and I as we had our ups/downs and ins/outs with each other.  It is funny how we could talk bad about each other but nobody else could or they hear about it.  lol   Even though we were at odds and not as close as we once were, when it matter the most,  we expressed how much we loved each other and were there for each other.  It will not only be there as my memory but in writing as we texted each other so I will have that with me for the rest of my life to remember how much we love each other.   Jeannine, I love you and will deeply miss you.  Peace Out  XO

She was an amazing person and my PE teacher may she Rest In Peace 

She personified the true meaning of passion, a lady of few words. Cannot believe that she's gone. No one will ever be able to fill such big shoes she filled. She was dedicated to her students and no one could've ever taken that away from her. It's a true tragedy. 

On behalf of me and our Afterschool Care staff, we send our thoughts and prayers during this time of sadness. May she rests in peace.

My heart is saddened by the loss of such a wonderful caring person! The Marriott family has so many great memories of her from Southside. So grateful to have known her! We wish her family peace during this difficult time and know that she is watching over us all.

Jeannine was one of the best people I have known.  I met her as a rookie teacher at Carol City Middle School, where she took me under her wing.  She was a mentor and a role model even though I was older than she. Jeannine took a special interest in kids and animals that others had abandoned, and she absolutely made the world a better place.  Hers was a light we need in the world right now; she will be sorely missed.

 ~Coach Mason will forever hold a special place in our hearts. She had a unique name for everyone of her students, of course, my daughter's was "softball." Coach told us she used to play third base, like my daughter and would always give her advice. Besides being my daughter's PE teacher, she was also my colleague and friend. Anyone who worked with her knew she was all about the kids, and their well being. I am going to miss her dearly, as are all of her students and friends. Time may heal all wounds, but the fond memories of Coach, will live on in our hearts forever.

Our family was so saddened with the loss of Coach Mason. She has been our PE teacher 5 years, to both of our boys. She was so giving and kind. She had nicknames for all of the kids in my son's class. He was Gator. How you remember all of their actual names plus nicknames is beyond me! Ms. Mason personally helped me with so many things at the school, when I was working on the PTA. When I would come pick up the kids at the end of the day, she would call us over and talk to us about sports or whatever was going on that day, always with a smile on her face. So many children and parents have been positively impacted by the joy that Ms. Mason brought with her every day. We truly miss her. Sending much love to her family and friends. <3 

I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of my colleague, Coach Mason. She was always one of the first teachers I would see in the morning when I arrived to work at Southside and I was inspired by her dedication to the field of education and her students. I appreciated the helping hand she would extend to the Music Department and I will miss her strong contribution to our faculty.  She was a beautiful member of the Southside family. 

It is with Great sorry and woe that I more a lovely friend. Her infectious laugh and true friendships are what made her special to all who called her friend. Rest now in Eternal Peace.

The Prelaz family is heartbroken about loosing Coach Mason. She was a dedicated educator, an advocate for fairness among her students, an awesome DJ, and one of the funniest people I have ever worked with. Her use of music always set the tone for the event and brought the center court alive. She never did play my requests for Lynyrd Skynyrd southern rock though and dodged out of the many times I tried to take her picture- it was always about the children with her. Jeannine was very proud of her nephews and their service, and luckily she shared pictures of them with me. She mentored my daughter Amanda and helped her develop a love of basketball. Can I tell you Coach Mason was already planning for the next UM basketball field trip? She was relentless in making it happen for the students.  Every morning she'd call out - "Hey Prelaz- we need to talk" when I came in from morning duty, and I wasn't quite sure if I was in trouble or she was pulling my leg. 9 times out of 10 it was to share a quick laugh or observation. One of our last conversations was us joking about retiring, and racing golf carts in The Villages. She was truly a kind person with a heart of gold who could crack jokes and keep her poker face!  She will be missed deeply, and always respected for her dedication to children. I can hear her now -"Peace"-"Out". God Bless - Katie Prelaz and Family
