She was born on February 1, 1931 to Hurdman and Virginia Bark of Sandwich, Illinois.
Jan graduated from Iowa State University with a teaching degree in English. She later completed her Masters Of Arts Degree from Northwestern University.
Jan began her teaching career at Bremen High School in Midlothian, Illinois. It was there that she met her partner, Prudence Penney.
Jan & Pen moved to Plantation in 1957. They travelled the world and along the way documented their adventures using Jan’s keen sense of photography. Jan’s beautiful framed photos adorned the walls of their homes.
In 1992, Jan and Pen relocated to a lovely intercoastal home in Fort Lauderdale. There they enjoyed many festivities, outings and boat trips with their wide array of friends. Jan and Pen lived life to its fullest, savoring every moment.
Jan was preceded in death by her spouse, Prudence Penney, her parents, Hurdman and Virginia Bark and her sister, Sally Bark Dellenback.
Jan is survived by her nieces, Lori Dellenback Carey (John), Jeanne Dellenback Skelton (Doug) and Karen Dellenback Erhart (Steve) along with ten great nieces and great nephews and many friends whom she considered family.
