Boyd Randolph “Randy” Shropshire – 66, of Pompano Beach, Florida passed away on June 20, 2022 from a prolonged and courageous battle with cancer. A beloved husband, father, brother, and grandfather, he will be greatly missed by his wife of 40 years, Cathleen, brother Steve, son Boyd (wife Cassandra) and Jay (wife Lizeth), and granddaughter Quinn. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Solveig Shropshire.
Randy grew up in Hallandale, Florida and attended South Broward High School. He learned the masonry trade while attending vocational school during his senior year. Over the following years he developed the skills, precision, and passion that became the basis for his later success as a General Contractor and talented craftsman. His love for historic buildings and reclaimed lumber led the way to create businesses that he ran with his wife, Cathy, among them Pinetree Builders and most recently, Old Florida Lumber Company.
All his life, he was an avid hunter, fisherman, and sportsman who had a deep appreciation for wildlife and the natural world. If he wasn’t working or spending time with his family, you could find him in the great outdoors. From the swamps of the Everglades to the remote island of Kodiak, Alaska, he forged many deep and lasting friendships during his adventures.
Randy was a member of First Baptist Church of Fort Lauderdale, where he and Cathy met and were married. For many years, he volunteered his building expertise for mission projects in the Dominican Republic, most recently with Mission Emmanuel.
Randy had an infectious smile and touched countless people with his kind spirit and warm heart. As his brother Steve shares, “Randy was an incredible human being and was loved by so many people. I feel so fortunate to have been guided by him my entire life. He has always been my North Star.”
Services include a Visitation held on Friday, July 1st 5-7pm at Fred Hunter’s (718 S Federal Hwy, Ft. Lauderdale) and a Celebration of Life on Saturday, July 2nd at 11am in the sanctuary at First Baptist Church (301 E Broward Blvd, Ft. Lauderdale) with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to Mission Emmanuel (missionemanuel.org) or The Michael and Dianne Bienes Cancer Center at Holy Cross Health (holycrossdonations.com).
