Anthony James Scalise, age 82, passed away on June 24, 2024. He was born on November 24, 1941, to Joseph and Cecelia Accardi Scalise. With his passing, the world lost a kind and humble soul, and he left behind a legacy that will forever be cherished by those who knew and loved him.
Fondly known as TJ, Tony, or Papa, Anthony was everything to everyone. He began his career owning a gas station in Forest Hills, New York, where he met his wife Patricia and, after moving to Ft. Lauderdale, started a lawn company, Royal Palm Maintenance, where he served his local community for 42 years. Simultaneously, he worked at Daniel’s Antiques for 25 years. He then began working at Shepard’s Way thrift shop for twelve years with the love of his life. He never fully retired, and most recently worked at Home Depot for nine years.
He took pride in working hard and caring for his family, never accepting full retirement as an answer. His commitment and work ethic were unparalleled and left a lasting impact on all who encountered him throughout his professional journey. He was humble, honest, hardworking, and always willing to help others. As the beloved patriarch of our family, he exemplified loyalty, devotion, and unconditional love.
His unwavering affection for his wife, Patricia Scalise, and deep adoration for his family, especially his grandchildren, were the cornerstones of his life. He will be remembered for the beautiful memories he created with his family and his example of leading with God’s love.
Papa was the epitome of humility, loyalty, and kindness. He found joy in life's simple pleasures: watching Westerns and Mob movies, engaging in spirited games of Uno, chess, and checkers, and relishing moments at the Peter Pan Diner. His love for Charlie Brown reflected his gentle, enduring spirit, and his vast collection of unique coins and antiques exhibited his passion for culture and history.
A man of integrity, he found joy in helping others selflessly. His kind heart and willingness to assist anyone testify to his character. A true patriot, Papa's pride in his country was immense, and his faith in the Lord was unwavering.
Among those who preceded him in death are his parents, Joseph and Cecelia Accardi Scalise, his brother and wife, Joey and Libby Scalise, and his son, William Walters.
Papa's legacy lives on through the love of his life for over fifty years, Patricia; two daughters, Kristine and Kerry, and two sons, Richard and David; six grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter, as well as his two nephews, Dan and his family, Joe Jr., and many loving cousins.
