William “Bill” Camden, Esq., 78, passed away in Tucson, Arizona, on Tuesday, January 28, 2020. Bill was born in 1941 to Sterling and Jean Camden where he was one of three sons. He graduated from Lake Worth High School in Lake Worth, Florida, earned a bachelor degree from Florida State University, a masters from Western Michigan University and a law degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School.
Bill took great pride in serving families in Southwest Michigan. During his time as the Calhoun County Friend of the Court he wrote the Constitution and Bylaws for the Southwest Michigan Family Support Council. Later, as the Kent County Friend of the Court, he developed the Absent Parent Support Program and the Parents Fair Share Program. He served as President of the Friend of the Court Association and was also appointed by Secretary of State Albright as one of a four person delegation to negotiate bi-lateral child support and visitation agreements with seven European nations.
Bill loved his Detroit Tigers, Lions, Red Wings and Arizona women’s basketball. He was a passionate fan watching his grandkids play soccer, softball, perform in the marching band and compete in robotics. Bill had a lifelong love of classical and country music. Before Carol passed, they loved traveling the country in their motorhome with their cat Mia. After her passing he enjoyed living in Arizona with a group of “Sun Birds” and his best friend Ilona Stone.
Bill was preceded in death by Carol Camden, his loving wife of 51 years and brother Sterling Camden III. He is survived by his children Andrew (Amber) Camden and Amy (Brian) Ransler; grandchildren Ashley, Audrey, Austin, Nathan and James; brother James Camden PHD and by many nieces and nephews.
A service to honor Bill’s life will be at 7 p.m., Monday, February 17, 2020, at Lakeshore Memorial Services, 11939 James Street, Holland, Michigan. Visitation will be 1-3 p.m. and 6-7 p.m. just prior to the service. Bill chose to be cremated which has taken place. Memorial contributions may be made to Habitat for Humanity.
