Susan Elaine Galat, also known as “Nama” to her beloved grandchildren, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her love ones in Zeeland, Michigan on March 6, 2023, after a yearlong cancer journey.
Susan’s story started in 1954, the third child to parents Lorna Elaine Schneeberger and Donald Carl Kenyon. Susan grew up in East Lansing, Michigan and as a little girl enjoyed walking with her dad to the donut shop on Sunday’s. Susan attended East Lansing High School and worked at the Hallmark store on Grand River Ave. Susan’s father passed away when she was 20 and she forever changed her outlook on life. Susan strived to live each day as a gift, always looking on the bright side of things and putting others before herself.
After graduating from high school, Susan entered her career as a loan officer and credit union teller, something she took great pride in and enjoyed. In 1981 Susan married the love of her life, Mark. They built a house in Haslett, Michigan and had two girls, Ashley and Courtney, who Susan devoted her life to from the very beginning. Susan had a simple dream for herself, to marry, have children and be the best mom and wife, and that she was.
Susan enjoyed quality time with family and friends, traveling around Michigan, Florida, Myrtle Beach and beyond- As long as her best friend and devoted husband was by her side. When it came time for grandchildren, Susan was all in. She loved spending time with her grandbabies, helping them to know and love the Lord just as she did. Susan would often share bible verses or inspirational messages to all of her loved ones.
Susan is survived by: her husband, Mark who believes it was a privilege and honor to care for his wife as he promised in their vows so many years ago; her children, Ashley (Luke) Grill, Courtney (Ken) Pinch; beloved grandchildren, Colton, Cora, Lincoln, Hazel, Kennedy and Hudson; her treasured sisters, Nancy Steck, Marilyn Handy, Dawn Cochran, and Marilyn Pickett; and brother in laws, Doug Steck and Paul Cochran.
She is preceded in death by: her father, Donald; her mother, Lorna; her step father, Roland; her in-laws, Stephen and Sophie Galat; her brother in laws, Bob Brondyke, Tom Handy, and Mel Pickett.
A celebration of life will be held in the coming months, Susan would want friends and family to gather and enjoy time together with one another.
