Robert was born and raised in Gowen.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clair and Elva Vanderlip, brothers Marvin, Howard, and Ron.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 69 years, Betty Vanderlip, sons and daughters-in-law, Steven (Nancy) Vanderlip, Jeff (Linda) Vanderlip; 4 grandchildren, Kelly (John) Gendron of Howell, Kim (Mark) Piering of Byron Center, Heidi (Eric) Bale of Fennville, Scott Vanderlip of Douglas; brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Jo Ellen Thomas of Belding; 8 great grandchildren.
Upon graduation from Trufant High School, Robert served in the U.S. Navy during World War II; after his discharge, he continued on as an instructor in the Navy reserves and was a member of the American Legion. Most of Robert’s adult life was spent in Holland, being employed as a local store general manager, a stint as a factory sales representative, and lastly, selling automobiles before retiring. Upon retiring, many years were spent enjoying boating, and traveling across the country in their motor home, spending time with family and residing at their Florida residence during the “cold” winters. Robert served as a volunteer at Holland Hospital for 6 years.
Bob wishes were to be cremated. There will be a private ceremony at Graafschap Cemetery with Military Honors. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Holland.
