Martin James Muyskens

Marty met the love of his life, Marla Fletcher, when they lived on the same street and started dating in 1957. They were happily married for 62 years. Besides being a devoted husband, Marty was devoted to his children Michael (Diane), Matthew (Beth) and Marcy (Doug), and later to his seven grandchildren, Morgan (Max), Robert (Mandy), Lillie, Sean, Ethan, Thomas and Mia.

A decades-long member of Beechwood Reformed Church, Marty exemplified his Christian faith through his love for his family, along with his friendship and goodwill towards all he met. He also served as a mentor for several years in the Kids Hope program at Woodside School. He loved working with the children and showed them love and hope.

Marty started work with his dad as a carpenter and then moved on to a 35-year career with the Board of Public Works for the Holland Power Plant. He truly enjoyed the variety of work in the maintenance department.

He loved camping and traveling with family and friends. Marty built the family’s first pop up camper from scratch, and it was used many years to create happy family memories. Marty and Marla enjoyed many cruises over the years as well as visiting their kids and grandkids.

Marty is survived by his wife Marla Muyskens, children Michael and Diane Muyskens, Matthew and Beth Muyskens, Marcy and Doug Postma and his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his siblings Henry C. Muyskens Jr., Elizabeth (Muyskens) Pothoven, John R. Muyskens, George H. Muyskens, and parents Henry and Nellie Muyskens.

A service to honor his life will be at 11:30 am on Friday, October 16, 2020 at Beechwood Church, 895 Ottawa Beach Rd., Holland.

Visitation will be from 11:00 am until the time of the service on Friday at Beechwood Church.

Pastor Marlin Vis will be officiating.
