Margaret was born September 29, 1923 in Chelsea, Michigan to Walter Amberman and Elizabeth Gorden Harper. Raised in Chelsea, she enjoyed spending hours at her father’s Pontiac dealership. She graduated from Chelsea High School as salutatorian in 1941. A 1945 graduate of Albion College, she was a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority, Sigma Alpha Iota music fraternity, and was selected for the honorary Mortar Board. After earning a master’s degree at the University of Michigan, she taught mathematics and social studies at Ypsilanti High School, Battle Creek Lakeview Highland Junior High, and Tappan Junior High (1969-1980) in Ann Arbor. Active in retirement, she served as president of the local chapter of AAUW and volunteered at the Alzheimer’s and Hospice offices in Ann Arbor. She will be remembered for her love of family and music, playing piano, clarinet, and recorders. She enjoyed playing bridge and working in her rose garden.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Eleanor Peterson of Cadillac. She is survived by her children: Kathryn (John) Bunnell of Cadillac, Rebecca (Eric) Mann of Holland, and Gordon (Wanda Prather) Collins of Columbia, MD; 4 grandchildren, Matthew Mann of Grand Rapids, Sara (Blake) Stilwill of Northville, Steven (Rebeca) Bunnell of Sherman Oaks, CA, and Debra (Ted) Kushion of Lowell; and 6 great-grandchildren.
Interment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Chelsea at a later date.
