Leo was preceded in death by his eldest son Allan, parents Sylvester and Victoria, and his brothers and sisters John (Madge), Frank (Eve), Charles (Lee), Henry, Edward, and William (Mick) and Helen, Julie, Stella (Art), and Mary (Lucien). His parents in law, Theodore and Marie Lewendon, sister in laws Louise (Ed) and Connie (Ed).
Leo is survived by wife Shirley, of 69 years, a daughter in law, Betty Zych, three children, Marie (Bob) Tanis, Ed (Rose) Zych, and Donna (Tom) Miller, and a sister in law, Jacklyn Zych. He also leaves behind six grandchildren, Allan Zych Jr., Meagan (Leo) Scofield, James (Powers) Tanis, Julie (David) Emmons, Ross Tanis, Karrie Zych, and Ashley and Deprece Kelly, and eight great grandchildren, Katelyn and Riley Scofield, Kylie and Connor Emmons, Adam and William Tanis, and Caleb and Jonah White.
Leo is a WWII veteran and POW. Leo’s sense of humor was a highlight of his presence. He loved large family gatherings where the stories nor laughter would never end. Leo was extremely generous and respectful of others. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and enjoyed the outdoors.
A memorial mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 12, 2017 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 171 W. 13th St., Holland. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the VFW Post 2144, the American Heart Association, or The University of Michigan Anatomical Donation Program.
