Born in Pecos, Texas on August 13, 1946 he moved to Holland Michigan as a child. He graduated from West Ottawa High School in 1964. Following high school he served in the United States Army from1965-1968. While in the army he was stationed in Fort Knox and Korea. Upon returning from Korea he began his family and secured employment at Hexcel Corporation until he suffered a work related injury, which left him wheel chair bound.
He was a caring, honest, selfless man who had unconditional love for his family and friends. Despite difficult circumstances he would see the positive in every situation and the good in every person he met. Family members remember his competitive, yet fun nature. He enjoyed spending time playing beanbag toss, marbles, Wii-bowling and any other game in which he could declare himself the winner!
Luis is survived by his daughters: Dolores and Joel Driesenga, Tina Garcia-Koopman, Raquel and Jarvis Moore; Grandchildren: Darrin, Lukas, Brittney(Fabian), Carlos, Caitlin, Anthony (Marcela), and Dominique; Great-grandchildren: Annelle, Dahlia, Zaleah, and Jeremiah; Siblings: Flora Lopez, Fr. Pedro Garcia, Teresa Beltran, Andrea Garcia, Chona Rangel, Roberto Garcia (Monica), and Gloria Garcia; Several nieces, and nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents Jesus and Conrada Garcia; siblings Johnny Garcia, Santana Jesus Garcia, twins Jose and Maria Garcia; and brother-in-law Lupe Lopez.
Family would like to thank you for your thoughts, prayers, and especially the amazing staff at Holland Community Hospital. He is no longer suffering and is now with loved ones who have passed. We are certain he is happy to visit all his friends he lost while serving in the war. He is no longer bound to his wheel chair and is sprinting –we are sure of it! We are thankful that he was able to spend quality time with the Garcia family this past Saturday at our Garcia reunion. He was the 1st to arrive and the last uncle to leave.
He will be remembered as a loving father, grandpa, great-grandpa, uncle, great-uncle, brother, cousin, and best-friend.
Visitation will be held Tuesday July 21, 2015 from 10 -11 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales, 171 West 13th Street in Holland, Michigan 49423. Funeral mass will follow immediately following the visitation.
