John J. Daniels passed away on November 27, 2023. He was born in Grand Rapids, MI on July 20, 1953 and grew up on the West Side. He graduated from West Catholic High School and attended GVSU. He worked for 25 years at Steelcase Corporation before moving on to pursue other career ventures. He resided in Holland, MI for the past 25 years.
John was an avid sports enthusiast his entire life, especially cheering on his beloved University of MI football team. In his younger days, he played baseball and football, and later became a good golfer with 2 hole-in-ones. He also enjoyed watching his daughter and later his grandchildren play soccer. John loved music, especially 70’s rock, jazz, and blues. He attended many a live music performance and concert in his lifetime. He also greatly enjoyed reading and traveling. John was a proud registered Democrat and cared deeply about issues such as the rights of all people, truth and honesty and global warming. He volunteered for a number of years at Community Action House in Holland and was an advocate for those less fortunate than himself. He loved people and made friends wherever he went. John was also a registered organ donor.
John is survived by his wife Kris, daughter Karrie Bishop, son-in-law Bob, and grandchildren Logan and Madelyn; sister Dianne Connell of OH, sister Sue Hoffman of IN, and brother-in-law Mark (Becky) Sundstrand of MI as well as his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Alice Jane Daniels, brothers Dan Daniels and Wesley (Sue) Daniels and brother-in-laws Tom Connell and Ron Hoffman.
A celebration of John’s life is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 15 at 4:00 pm at Lakeshore Memorial Services at 11939 James St., Holland, MI 49424.
