JoAnn K Martin

Jo Ann Martin (Kern)of Holland Michigan passed on December 31, 2023 at the age of 84 while residing at Riley’s Grove Assisted Living in Zeeland from Parkinson’s. She is preceded in death by her father George Kern & mother Phoebe, her sister Shara Lee, brother John & nephew Lee.

She is survived by her husband Bob of 59 years, son Rob & daughter Michelle Martin- Class along with her spouse Kathy & daughter Aryanna in Holland, sister-in-law Linda Kern - her sons Robert and John residing in Warren Ohio, brother-in-law Jack Wilson & son Rick. A special mention to our Italian Exchange student Livia Chiriotti with whom we are still actively engaged with after over 30 years.

Momma Jo was known for her sense of humor, willingness to pitch in & help others, cooking special dishes and treats. She was a bit of a prankster which she absolutely delighted in doing.

She was born in Waynesburg PA, graduated from High School. She has work as a clerk, cashier, waitress & was the head of Wal-Mart’s accounting office in Holland prior to retiring. She loved downhill skiing, kayaking, bicycling & traveling.

Jo was actively engaged in our church - overnight ski trips with the youth, while sleeping on a church floor, youth mission trips, making Pigs in the Blankets as a fundraiser, Women’s Retreat & the Annual Church Garage Sale. Served as Deacon , on the pastoral search committee which brought Pastor Tom Nelson and Mary-Gray to our church. She was also a member of the “Five Golden Rings” choir during Christmas parties.

A visitation for Joann will be held Friday, January 19, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church, 659 State St, Holland, MI 49423. A memorial service will occur Saturday, January 20, 2024 at 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church.
