

Homer Leon McFarland, 85, passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family. He was a highly decorated veteran and received the Silver Star for his service in the US Army during the Korean War. Homer later settled in Holland where he worked for MagnaDonnely for 35 years before retiring. After retirement he did numerous sign projections working with friends and family. Homer belonged to the American Legion, the VFW and supported many other causes. He was passionate about motorcycles and loved NASCAR. He will be greatly missed!
Homer was preceded in death by his parents James and Argie McFarland, brothers James and Earnest McFarland, nephews Gary, James Dean and Michael McFarland and niece, Tina Kress Newboles. Also preceded in death by sister Betty and brothers Albert and Gene.
He is survived by his wife Mary McFarland, daughter Sharron (Mike) VanDenBerg, son Rodger McFarland, stepsons James Bryant and Daniel (Judy) Bryant; and by several nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Homer is also survived by his sister Clara Mae (Carl) Newboles .
A service with military honors is Thursday, July 13, 11 a.m. at Lakeshore Memorial Services, 11939 James St., Holland, Michigan. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 12, 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Michigan. Memorial contributions in honor of Homer may be given to the Disabled American Veterans, 1185 Matt Urban Dr. in Holland.
