Carolyn (Candi) Van Dyke left this world peacefully on September 24, 2024, at the age of 78, after a long health battle. Candi's life was a testament to her unwavering faith, love for her family, and dedication to her friends.
Born on January 9, 1946, in Detroit, Michigan, Candi was a radiant light in the lives of all who knew her. Her faith was the cornerstone of her earthly existence, guiding her through life’s challenges and inspiring those around her.
Candi was the proud mother of two children—Steve and Jennifer. As a grandmother to six wonderful grandchildren, Candi found boundless happiness in their laughter and accomplishments, always encouraging them to follow their dreams. She was their biggest fan!
Candi’s friendships were a source of great joy and purpose. She believed in the power of connection and was always there to lend a listening ear or a helping hand, which was reciprocated by so many dear friends during her final year of life. Her compassion and generosity knew no bounds, and her friends will forever cherish the countless memories made over the years.
Candi is survived by her loving children, Steve Van Dyke (Julie) and Jennifer Orme (Derek); her six grandchildren, Max, Hollis, Preston, and Lyndin Van Dyke, and Louie and Crosby Orme, her niece Michelle (Mitch) Morgan and nephew Rock (James Miller) Kauffman, who grew up referring to her as their “Aunt Canky”.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Maurice and Opal (McAllister) Gilbert who instilled in her the Christian values she lived by, her beloved husband Jerry Van Dyke, and her “sissy” Sharon Failey.
A celebration of Candi’s life will be held on the evening of Thursday, October 10, 2024, at Pillar Church of Holland at 7:00 pm. All are welcome to join in honoring the beautiful legacy she leaves behind.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to either Faith Hospice of Grand Rapids or Lighthouse Immigrant Advocates of Holland.
Candi Van Dyke may have left this earthly realm, but her love, faith, and spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
