Alan was a graduate of Holland High School, class of 1961. He then attended Grand Rapids Junior College. Alan volunteered to serve his country during wartime in the U.S. Army. He served as a Chaplain’s assistant. After serving his country for 2 years, he worked for Fred Meijer, at Thrifty Acres in Holland. Soon after, he met Gwen on a blind date, and they married 3 months later. Alan was a small business owner in Holland for 10 years. He worked in Hospital Administration for 5 years in West Michigan. In 1980, he moved his family to Atlanta, GA. Where he continued his Hospital Administration work. In 1984, he moved his family to Pennsylvania. Alan joined UHS Inc. where he worked until his retirement in 2014. He was an elder, deacon, and Sunday school teacher in the churches he attended, always a prayer warrior. Alan will be remembered by his family as a Big Michigan Fan, fun loving, kind, and generous.
Alan is survived by: his loving wife of 56 years, Gwendolyn Schreur; children, Wendy and Kim Vereeke, Cindy and David Norman, Bryan and Shannon Schreur, and Pam and Erskine Harris; 10 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; sister, Myra VanKuiken; brother, Ivan Schreur; and many nieces and nephews.
Alan was preceded in death by: his parents, John and Helene Schreur; brothers, Paul and Margret Schreur, John and Pat Schreur; sister, Lois and Bill Simpson; sister-in-law, Ruth Schreur; and brother-in-law, Ronald VanKuiken.
